Jewish Observance

Kadimah Scholars are an integral part of the Park School of Buffalo community, and participate in all the regular clubs, activities and sports offered by Park. At the same time, our Judaism and Jewish observance are fully embraced and welcomed at Park, whose student body and faculty already include a diverse representation of religions, cultures, races, ethnicities and nationalities.

Hebrew and Judaic Studies classes are fully integrated into the Park curriculum as classes offered alongside other languages or supplemental class periods, so the students do not miss core subjects. Students are encouraged to wear kippot or tzitzit if they choose, but are not required to do so except during Hebrew and Judaic classes or Kadimah Scholars programs.

Additionally, Kadimah Scholars students are able to pray before school, and to bentsch (say Grace After Meals) after lunch every day. We also celebrate Shabbat every week, as well as all the holidays. Since coming to Park, we have blown the shofar, shared apples and honey, built a Sukkah, held Chanukah parties, read the Megillah in costume, held Tu B’Shvat and Passover seders, and paraded around campus for Shavuot.

Kadimah also will sponsor programs through Park School of Buffalo and other institutions in the Buffalo, NY area, and we collaborate with area synagogues and other Jewish agencies.
